about

The CD features 13 tracks. The title track is an original song reflecting the effect of the changing
seasons on the little road through Ballakilpheric, ‘half-way home.’ There are unaccompanied
arrangements of well-known traditional songs such as Ny Kirree Fo Niaghtey (The Sheep under the
Snow) and Sneeu Wheeyl, Sneeu (Spin wheel Spin), but also new songs which were originally
composed for children at the Bunscoill Ghaelgagh (the Manx language school) and found their way
into the Caarjyn repertoire. Other songs reflect Manx texts for which no tunes have been found so
new tunes have been made. There is also a strong folkloric element to some of the songs including
Berree Dhone (the Manx witch of that name) and the mock funeral march for Catherine’s hen
formerly sung on St Catherine’s Day in nearby Colby, Kiark Catreeney Marroo.
