about

Eubonia is an old Latin name for the Isle of Man. The writer of this drinking
song, Archdeacon Samuel Rutter, became Bishop of the Island under the
patronage of his friend James, 7th Earl of Derby, the then Lord of Man, during the volatile Civil War period. He wrote a number of songs to entertain his patron, though who was responsible for the Manx words is not known. The original tune is lost.
.

lyrics

Moyllee-jee maryms, Vanninee, Yn lune vie lajer as y vraih
Dagh seaghyn, as dagh kiarail, T’ad goll ersooyl lesh bree yn oarn.
Praise with me, O Manxmen, the good strong ale and the malt,
All troubles and cares disappear with the power of the barley.
