Manx folklorist Sophia Morrison brought the ‘Lazy Wife’, a Manx version of the Rumpelstiltskin story, to a wider public when she published her “Manx Fairy Tales” in 1911.
In this version, sung to the traditional tune, the spinner invokes magic to help get the spinning done. If she guesses the name of the giant helper, she can keep the yarn. Which indeed she does, and so Old Trit Trot is thwarted.
