Appearing in the A.W. Moore Collection, the fragmentary words of the original appear to tell of the big thief from over the mountain, one MacRegyl, who sets his son to beg on his behalf. We added a tune and two more verses in which the son, tired of doing his lazy, despotic father’s bidding, throws the pot of soup over him and runs off into the night, never to be seen again.
